2026 Genesis: Overcoming What Opposes God’s Purpose | Josh Laxton

If God is on mission to bring heaven to earth—what threatens that mission in our lives? In this message from Genesis 17–22, we discover that while many forces oppose God’s purposes, nothing can ultimately stop what God has promised. Instead, Scripture shows how God overcomes both external pressures and internal struggles to accomplish His mission through His people. Five threats to God’s mission—and how He works through them: 1. Inadequate Inabilities – What we see as weakness becomes God’s opportunity to work. 2. Carnal Cousins & Synthetic Siblings – Counterfeit faith and divided loyalties distort and distract from mission. 3. Struggling Sin – Fear and compromise can hinder our witness if left unchecked. 4. Allies Who Become Adversaries – Even shifting relationships cannot derail God’s purposes. 5. Invisible Idolatry – When we love God’s blessings more than God Himself, we lose sight of His mission. Yet Scripture reminds us: nothing can thwart God bringing heaven to earth. Even the people and problems that threaten God’s mission often become the very targets of His redeeming grace.
