Baptism Sunday | Duane Calvin

Privacy has become one of the defining instincts of our culture. We decide what people see and what they don’t. And in many ways, that instinct follows us into our faith—keeping it personal and internal. But the outward declaration of Baptism is anything but private. After His resurrection, Jesus called His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In fact, Baptism is the moment our faith moves from private belief to public belonging. In a real sense, the day we are baptized becomes our commissioning day. One in which we are commissioned to share the Good News and live alongside and with God’s followers—the church—as we become more like Him.
