Some people think being a peacemaker means being agreeable, avoiding confrontation, and maintaining calm at all costs. But Jesus, when He called us to be peacemakers, meant something far more radical. They actively engage in the difficult, sometimes messy, work of bringing true reconciliation. This requires courage—because making peace often disrupts the status quo. Scripture shows us that it’s not about preserving our own comfort. It’s about sacrifice, truth-telling, humility, and even personal risk. When it comes to tension, there are two different approaches: running from it or thriving on it. Learning to deal with tension is apart of life and not just during the holiday season. We need to learn how to deal with conflict rather than avoid it. It all starts with a simple word: Shalom.
