The Beatitudes are a list of eight countercultural ways that you can live a life with joy that the world can’t take away from you. it’s often thought of as if you are pure in heart, THEN you will SEE God. The more we seek innocence and purity, the more vulnerable we can become. Instead of hiding our struggles, we strive to be more consistent and holy. In this world’s fallen nature, a human’s motives and agenda can’t be 100% pure. God sees this and knows why we do what we do. If you could somehow earn your way into Heaven because of your purity, or obedience or honesty or good deeds, then why THE CROSS? Being pure in heart is not about being perfect but rather about being honest before a living God and including others into the deepest parts of your heart.
