We're in part 5 of our No Sense series. Today, we uncover one of the most important truths in Scripture: faith cannot function without love. Just like a flashlight needs batteries to operate, faith needs love to operate. Many believers wonder why their faith isn’t producing fruit—often, it’s because love is missing. Galatians 5:6 reminds us that we are not justified by works or by being a “good person,” but by Jesus alone. Yet Paul says faith works through love. Love is what energizes, sustains, and activates our faith. Without it, we won't see the full power of God in and through our lives. Jesus made love central when He said the greatest commandments are: love God (vertical love) and love others (horizontal love) (Matthew 22:36–40). We cannot give love unless we have first received God’s love for us. Practicing His presence, sitting in His affirmation, and letting Him sing over us transforms our hearts. From that place, we are called to love ALL people—not just those who agree with us politically, socially, or spiritually. John 13:34–35 sets the standard: the world will know we are His disciples by our love. We are to love like Him. Jesus loved radically—He pursued, forgave, restored, taught, and ultimately gave His life to his disciples. That’s the model. Our forgiveness, patience, and unity with one another are to be the evidence that Christ lives in us. But here’s the challenge: fear and love cannot coexist. 1 John 4:18 teaches that perfect love casts out fear. Fear builds invisible prisons—fear of death, relationships, rejection, or failure. Yet love takes risks. Love makes us vulnerable, but it also makes us free. Jesus warned in Matthew 24 that in the end times, the love of many would grow cold. Cold love shows up in cynicism, constant offense, unforgiveness, compassion fatigue, routine worship, and apathy toward the lost. Instead of passion, people settle for protection.
