Grief, Grace, and Properly Processing the Assassination of Charlie Kirk: A Sermon on Love, Loss, and Living in Truth Amid Tragedy: In a world that feels increasingly divided, hostile, and reactionary, how do we as believers respond to moments of profound tragedy, especially when they intersect with politics, identity, and cultural narratives? In this deeply personal and biblically grounded message, we examine how followers of Christ are called to process the shocking and heartbreaking assassination of Charlie Kirk: Not through the lens of politics or ideology, but through the lens of grief, grace, and the Gospel. GRIEF — The Reality of Loss Grief is natural. It is human, and in the face of any loss, especially the violent and senseless, we must give ourselves space to mourn. This message does not minimize the pain. Instead, it invites us to be honest about our sorrow, to name it, and to bring it before God. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” –Matthew 5:4. We explore how grief is not weakness, but a reflection of the value of life. In grieving, we recognize our shared humanity, even with those we may not have agreed with in life. GRACE — Love for the Unlikable, Prayer for the Unpopular: In today’s polarized world, it's easy to demonize those we disagree with, especially public figures. But Jesus called us to a higher standard: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” –Luke 6:27-28. Grace doesn't mean we endorse every action, statement, or ideology. It means we refuse to let hatred and bitterness define our hearts. It means we see people as God sees them, broken, in need of redemption, and deeply loved. This sermon challenges the idea that love and agreement must coexist. You can love someone you don’t align with politically, morally, or socially. In a culture so quick to cancel and condemn, choosing grace is a radical act of faith! HUMANITY — Refusing to Dehumanize
