“The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. But some people have missed this whole point. They have turned away from these things and spend their time in meaningless discussions. They want to be known as teachers of the law of Moses, but they don’t know what they are talking about, even though they speak so confidently.” - 1 Timothy 1:5-7 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus are often called the Pastoral Epistles and it’s not too hard to see why. These are letters Paul is writing to his brothers in the faith, Timothy and Titus and right away you see they read differently than the other Pauline letters we’ve been focused on. In the previous letters, Paul was writing to churches - encouraging his church plants as they continue to grow and do ministry without him. In these letters, Paul is mentoring Timothy and Titus in a beautiful way as they minister and the truths he anchors in are still perfectly relevant to us today. To help us navigate the Pastoral Epistles is Dr. Robert Yarbrough, Professor of New Testament at Covenant Theological Seminary and author of a commentary on the Pastoral Epistles.
