What does your response to God’s promises reveal about your faith? In Genesis 17–21, Abraham, Sarah, and others respond to God’s promises with different kinds of laughter—some filled with doubt, some shaped by skepticism, some rooted in resistance, and one transformed by joy. This message explores how the way we “laugh” at God reveals the kind of life we’re living with Him. This sermon invites us to move from disbelief to trust—and from skepticism to redeeming joy through the faithfulness of God. Four kinds of laughter in Genesis 17–21: 1. Astonishing Doubt – “I don’t see it, so it’s hard to believe it.” (Genesis 17:17–18) 2. Cynical Skepticism – “I don’t think God will do it.” (Genesis 18:12–15) 3. Antagonistic Mocking – “I despise that God did it.” (Genesis 21:9–10) 4. Redeeming Laughter – “God actually did it!” (Genesis 21:1–7) Ultimately, the laughter surrounding Isaac—the son of promise—points forward to the ultimate Son of Promise, Jesus, whose death and resurrection turn sorrow into joy and disbelief into worship.
