In terms of the celebrations of the Christian church, Good Friday can seem particularly grim and solemn. But keep in mind—it is only through recognition of the “bad news,” that the good news of the gospel can have any meaning for us. We must not move too quickly from repentance to celebration, lest we forget what sin has actually cost us—and cost Jesus. Without these painful recollections, we may fail to actually repent (literally, “to change course”). So we encourage you to fully embrace the sobriety of Good Friday liturgy and prayer—because keep in mind, Easter is coming. God didn’t rush it. Neither should we.
