Do we try to impress God with our good and holy deeds? If so, it’s possible we misunderstand what Jesus actually wants from us. We’re not as impressive as we think. In fact, Jesus feels great tenderness toward those who are getting it wrong! In the gospel of Mark, Jesus is approached by a rich young ruler who asks, “What must I do to inherit the kingdom of God?” And the young man asks this question believing (or at least hoping) he has already done it.
