Why do we often find it easier to follow people than to follow God? — When we state our allegiances, the community of Jesus followers must take seriously the sin present inside and between us—in the very fabric of our soil. “The earth itself groans for that day of total rescue.” Sin in and of itself, is oppressive and ultimate power in human hands will always lead to oppressive rule, even when it’s well intended. Isaiah reveals our allegiance was never meant to be to a human king—God’s design was always theocracy.
